Executive Summary

We were brought in to assist a high-velocity fintech startup that had achieved a viral launch after building a fully functional MVP in just three weeks. The founders had famously built the entire application using Cursor with "zero handwritten code," leveraging natural language prompts to describe their desired outcomes.

However, shortly after onboarding their first 50 users, they hit what the industry calls the "Operational Wall." As real-world usage scaled, the application began to fail in ways the founders could not fix via prompting. They were stuck in a "verification bottleneck," where the time spent trying to prompt the AI to fix bugs exceeded the time it would take to rebuild the feature manually.

They called us to stabilize the platform before their churn rate destroyed their early traction.

The Diagnosis: "Plausible Fluency" vs. Structural Rot

Upon our arrival, we found an application that possessed "plausible fluency"—it looked functional on the surface—but the underlying architecture was critically compromised.

1. The "Spaghetti" Dependency Crisis

The founders had built the application iteratively, asking Cursor to "add this feature" day after day.

The Issue:

The AI agents, prioritizing immediate speed and "reward function" satisfaction, had created a modular nightmare. We discovered a "30-File Disaster" where the AI had generated 30 interconnected files, with nearly every file importing every other file to access global state.

The Consequence:

The Issue:

Whenever a feature didn't work, the founders prompted the AI to "try a different way." The AI would generate new logic but leave the old, broken logic in the file.
